Bouygues Building Canada Takes Division Title in 2013 Sun Run
On April 21, 2013, 48,000 people gathered downtown to participate in the Sun Run. Many of the participants wore blue and gold or the jerseys of Boston sports teams to commemorate those who were injured or lost their lives at the Boston Marathon. After a moment of silence, the 10km race began.
After the race, 17 Bouygues Building Canada runners met for brunch to celebrate and share estimates of their times. Gerald GATTI, Clive BOLT, and Alexandre NICOLAIEFF posted impressive times (38:20, 39:14 and 39:33 respectively) helping to bring down the average time for the top ten runners to approximately 43 minutes. Everyone had met their targets and it seemed as though the result would be enough to put the team in first place.
However, the results in the Vancouver Sun did not show Bouygues Building Canada in the top spot—one of our major competitors apparently still held the title with an average time of 43:03 for their top ten runners. It was a real disappointment to the team.
With further investigation into the times, Clive BOLT (2014 Team Motivator) noticed that a team members time hadn’t been recorded. After putting a request to the Sun Run organizers, the missing runners time was included, bringing Bouygues Building Canada’s average time down to 42:50, just enough to put the team in first place!
It was no small victory, especially considering the number of competing teams in the category (56), the relative size of the competitors (our major competitor had 113 runners), and the fact that it was only Bouygues Building Canada’s second year participating in the race. The team will begin rigorous training in the autumn of the year in order to keep their title.
