Building a Future for Education

Located in Vancouver, BC, the Kitsilano Secondary School is a respected educational facility in the local community that is in urgent need of renewal. With an attendance of approximately 1,500 students ranging from grades 8 to 12, the existing building is considered a high seismic risk and no longer meets modern educational standards.
Bouygues Building Canada, along with its Design-Build team, were retained to construct the new 19,312 m2 School to ensure it meets the requirements of the surrounding community by incorporating the following criteria:

  • A 21st century learning environment
  • LEED Gold Certification requirements
  • An intensive use of glazing to bring in natural light to promote a healthy environment for users
  • A Neighbourhood Learning Centre
  • The original 1927 Heritage Block façade
  • An area for academics with specialty classrooms and program spaces designed for individualized support and collaborative group work
  • A new library
  • Three gymnasiums and a 350-seat theatre

Bouygues Building Canada and the Design-Build team will ensure the School remains an educational and community hub hosting extra-curricular activities, continuing education, and heritage language programs.
